This is a personal site displaying not only the amateur photography of Martin Godfrey, but also his travels, tutorials in photography workflow, blog and links to the better websites around the web. I started taking digital pictures in 2003.
"In the early days my first digital camera was a Canon Powershot A40. It was really just holiday snaps in those days, pretty basic stuff. I then moved onto a Konica Minolta A2. This was a really good camera and my first steps in taking better pictures. However my photography was limited to when I went on holiday. By the time I had decided to venture into the DSLR arena, my interest in photography really started to take off. My first purchase was a Nikon D50. It was a fairly good camera. However I experienced a problem with it and sent it away. They took too long to repair for my liking, so onto its return, I decided to sell and purchase a Sony A100. This really is a great level entry camera and still one of the best. My main subject interests are landscapes, seascapes, architecture and gardens. My favourite places to take pictures are Cornwall, North Norfolk and Northumberland. Cornwall has its rugged coastlines, North Norfolk with its big skies and Northumberland with its historic castles and big beaches. This year, in an attempt to step up to another level of photography, I purchased a Canon EOS 40D. I joined the club in 2007/2008 after finding the club through the Internet. I had previously lived all my life in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire so I was new to area and keen to join a club to try and get into the community spirit. As I work close to Coventry Airport, we were attracted to the Hinckley area. With the Sigma Macro lens, I’ve also got in Macro photography and started to enjoy portrait photography also. Earlier in the year, I was asked to take some portraits of my partner’s friends children. It was a challenging but rewarding exercise. Fortunately all were pleased with my pictures. I learnt quite a bit from that day. Don’t always assume a sunny day is the best time to take portrait pictures. It can really play havoc with the camera’s metering. Obviously best achievement to date was winning Image of the Year with my picture of Sidmouth Beach. That was a great thrill. Next on my list is to try and get a picture to into the Midphot exhibition. I took a visit earlier in the year and it was very inspirational. It may take 2 or 3 attempts, but we’ll see how we get on. To finish I would like to go on some photography courses to gain some experience out in the field and see how the pros do it."
